“Wildflowers don’t grow in a vase”. I wrote this quote years ago, as a metaphor for free spirits who feel trapped in society. Because that’s how I felt: struggling while still in school, job hopping in stead of chasing a career, I couldn’t care less about fancy cars or fashionable clothes.
I was longing for a slow and simple life: a cottage with a herb garden, some shelves with old picture books and pets to cuddle with under a cozy blanket. To travel the world and write about my experiences instead of buying more things.
In 2011 I moved to South Africa, where my husband is from. Our daughter was born in 2018 and I was a stay at home mom for a few years, but financially it was unsustainable, so we moved from South Africa back to Belgium.
I got a job and fell back into the rat-race. In 2023 I was fired and on the verge of burnout, when I bumped into UYF, knowing right away this was the opportunity I had been looking for all along!
A way to channel my creativity, not being bound to the 9-to-5 routine, no boss, free to choose when and where I work. A way to also work on myself and make sure my nervous system never has to be nervous again.
